Ideas for Spicing Up a Small Reception | Nashville Wedding DJ

With all things COVID-19 at the front of our minds this Fall and Winter, we know that the wedding you set out to plan may not be the one you end up having. Many couples are opting to push forward with their date this summer and fall, but the rules and restrictions are very different. We have a few things we’d like to say about that:

-At Snyder Entertainment, we are here to do whatever keeps you and your guests safe, and makes you feel comfortable. You can check out this blog post to see the ways that we have altered our practices during this time, but we are open to any discussion you want to have about extra safety measures.

-One of the biggest challenges couples are facing right now, is deciding to cut their guest list short to avoid having a large crowd. We don’t believe that a small crowd has to be the end of a big party. Today, we’re sharing a few outside-of-the-box ideas that you can only achieve with a smaller crowd. There is disappointment in cutting a guest list, but there’s also plenty of opportunity. Today, we are sharing a few reception ideas that you really can only pull off with a small crowd, but the sky’s the limit when you have a smaller crowd. Let the brainstorming begin!

1. Total-Request-Live (TRL)

Yes, you read that right. TRL, just like the early 2000s MTV show! With a smaller guest list, you can give everyone a voice in what is played…without it being total chaos. All of our couples gain access to a planning portal, so that brides and grooms can choose special songs and set the tone for different points in the evening with their music. With a smaller guest list, you can relinquish a little of that planning time to letting your guests pick the music. There are several ways you could do this! You could have the DJ present two song options at different points in the evening, and have guests vote on which they’d rather hear. You could send out a digital ballot before your reception, and have your DJ play the top 10 or top 20 most requested songs throughout the evening. Or, you could simply open the floor for requests for a stretch of dancing time. With a smaller crowd, a great way to ensure that they keep dancing is to get them invested in the music! Letting your DJ man the requests is a great way to do that.

2. Trivia Night

Any DJ you hire through Snyder Entertainment is also going to be a fantastic MC. Plan a game of trivia about your relationship for your guests to compete in. Your MC can read the questions and call out answers, and transition everyone back to the dance floor when it’s over!

3. Games on the Dance Floor

There are some classic wedding games that the bride and groom participate in, while everyone else watches. Why not pull the guests in? Do a reception-wide version of the shoe game, with general relationship questions. Or, plan other fun games that everyone could play!

If you want to bring some yard games indoors to fill your dance floor, we can help with that too!

4. Karaoke

If you’re going to have a small reception with only your closest friends and family, karaoke is the perfect thing to add to the fun! You don’t have to worry about being embarrassed, because there are no strangers here. We bring the equipment, and let you and your guests provide the entertainment to each other.
